Your initial application for a Retirement Visa is usually done prior to coming to Thailand but it is best to check with Immigration in Bangkok. If you have all the required documents ie. Police clearance Certificate from your own country, a medical certificate, a letter from your Bank certifying that you have been a customer of the Bank for whatever the period and a Bank statement showing that you have at least the equivalent of 800,000 Baht etc etc...you may be able to make the application in Bangkok.
When you go to renew it after 12 months, you can make application at the closest Immigration Office that covers the District that you reside in. During the term of your Visa, you must report every 90 days to the nearest Immigration Office or Police station and fill in a To MO47 Form (no charge). You must have the 800,000 baht in a Thai Bank a/c at least 90 days prior to you requesting an extension to the Visa for a further year

Have 4 months left on a one year NON-IMMIGRANT "B" visa. Will travel for 7 weeks to the US with my legal Thai wife. The school i presently work for is not moving for some unknown reason on a work permit renewal. i enjoy working but i feel that i need a back up plan. I have obtained a medical statement from a Thai hospital and have adiquate funds in a US bank for several years. i do not have a pention. i am open to suggestions. lee
