THAILAND WOMEN     Do a Google search on “Thailand girls” and you’ll get over 1,600,000 hits.  A web site ignoring this segment of Thailand would be remiss.    Many Foreign travelers will agree that Thai women are some of the most beautiful in SE Asia, if not the entire world.  Thailand, known as the “Land of Smiles” was certainly thinking of its women when they came up with that slogan.    With all these sites to view, this author will not bore you with what is obviously an interesting topic to a large segment of persons interested in Thailand.  A single man does not need to be lonely if he so chooses.  You don’t need a “dating service” to set you up or an escort service to find a beautiful lady to grace your arm.   (Having said that, there are many introduction and dating services.  Some are good, some are rip offs.  As we explore these businesses, we will only advertise or recommend these agencies that we have personally checked out.  However, no guanantees!  Let the buyer beware!)   They are everywhere and fortunately for us Western men, they actually like our big noses and hairy arms. We on the other hand like their dark olive skin, which they go to great lengths to keep as light as possible.  We offer financial security, treat them better than they may be used to and offer a bit of status.   Once here and you chose to enter the “bar” scene, you will be given the opportunity to meet and date girls you never thought in your wildest dreams you’d be able to attract.  Actually, don’t get a big head.  They are attracted, at least at first, to your pocket book and the potential to “score” the “Farang” (Thai for Western person and mostly pronounced “falong”). However, having said that, we know of several couples that met that way and are now in a very committed relationship, some lasting for many many years and going strong.    Most girls in the bar business have come from poor families that look the other way.  It’s sort of a “don’t ask, don’t tell” relationship.  All girls send money home to their families every month.  Many have small children at home, living with Mom and Dad or Grandmother, who they support from their “tips”.  Obviously in this “sex” business there are those who are mercenary and only in it for the money, but this attitude seems to be far less here in Thailand than in other countries. (Our opinion)  You have to remember that these girls are mostly lower educated, from poor families and do not have many options.  Not making excuses, but stating the facts.

So..can you meet a “regular” girl not involved in the bar scene, massage or other sex related industry.  Of course!  Just about anywhere in Thailand, there are girls looking for good men.  In the big Cities, the old days of “good” Thai girls don’t date Farangs, is long gone.  Maybe in some upper class Thai Society circles, it still remains.  But as the older generation moves on, these attitudes are dying with them.  Many Farangs end up with university educated, working class women, doing their best to get ahead and make something out of their lives.  Having a Farang as a boyfriend/husband, may be very attractive to many.    The small country villages and small towns may have a few more “restrictions” on their daughters, but this is also becoming a thing of the past as more and more girls bring home their Farang husbands/boyfriends to reside in their home towns.    NOTE:  A rookie mistake would be to immediately move to your wife’s/girlfriends home village until you know her family very well.  You could end up with the entire family living at your house and depending on you for support.  Visit a few times and get to know ALL the family including brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts.  Many a horror story starts with this obvious but often overlooked mistake.   Do Thai Women make good wives?  Absolutely!!  They are faithful, loyal, somewhat jealous, a bit demanding, sweet, funny, sexy, small, beautiful skin, world’s best personal hygiene and tend to treat you better than you’ve experienced before.

What about language?  This can be a problem, but many Thai women now speak English very well and are learning other languages as well.  This is one area that the bar girls excel in as they get to practice all the time.  Women that work in travel or tourist related areas also have a good chance to learn and some take it quite serious, studying and taking classes to improve.  If you have the gift of easily learning a foreign language, learning to speak Thai will open many doors in finding a Thai girlfriend.  Thai women really love a guy who has taken the time to learn their language.  It also helps in many misunderstandings that will arise with couples where only one language is understood.   Did we mention that Thai women are jealous?  This is a fact, not to be taken lightly.  They are very clever in finding out what you’re up to, so better to be straight and not fool around once you have made a commitment.  There are many stories, some urban legends and great rumors about guys that have been caught!  Let the buyer beware!!   This subject of Western men meeting Thai ladies is vast and complicated.  We do not suggest we have the answers.  We can only comment on our experiences and those of other Expats we’ve talked to.  One thing is for sure: If you treat the ladies here as well or better than you would do at home, you are honest and have a good heart, you will find a wonderful, loving and faithful mate.  The really good news is that she will probably be much younger than you and change your outlook on many issues.  Good luck.   Why Retire in Thailand will post more on this subject, depending on reader comments and demand.  If you need more info or just want to chat, contact us through our membership or info@whyretireinthailand.com
